About this walk

This linear walk of around 5 km leads from the village of Downley across the wooded slopes and open pasture of the Hughenden Manor estate, finishing in Hughenden Valley. The route passes close to Millfield Wood before opening up to reveal views of the red-brick Hughenden Manor, once the country home of Victorian prime minister Benjamin Disraeli and now cared for by the National Trust.

Beyond the manor, the path drops to a tranquil Dew Pond tucked into the valley floor, then climbs through the parkland to the churchyard where Disraeli's grave lies. From here the trail continues gently down into Hughenden Valley, a peaceful Chilterns hamlet at the walk's end.

With around 157 m of ascent spread across the route, it is a moderate outing that takes most walkers about an hour and a quarter. Downley itself is home to the Le De Spencers Arms, a welcoming country pub that makes a fine spot to gather before setting off across the estate.
