About this walk
The Twa' Brigs Walk is a gentle 2.3 km ramble through the quiet countryside on the edge of Muirkirk in East Ayrshire. Starting near the Sanquhar Brig, the route follows an easy path with only 45 metres of ascent, making it an ideal half-hour outing for families or anyone looking to stretch their legs without much effort.
Along the way you pass Macadam's Cairn, a memorial commemorating the pioneer of modern road surfacing whose name still echoes in tarmac today. The path continues past Springhill House and crosses the Linky Burn, a small watercourse threading through the fields. The surroundings speak quietly of the area's industrial past, with the Muirkirk Ironworks, an old coal pit and the Garpel Water all lying close by.
Though brief, the walk packs in a surprising amount of local character, weaving history and landscape into a single easy loop. It is a fine choice if you want a taste of East Ayrshire's heritage without committing to a longer expedition.
