About this walk
This gentle circular walk begins in the market town of Tring and heads out into the quiet Hertfordshire countryside on the edge of the Chilterns. Setting off past The Akeman and The Bell, two familiar Tring landmarks, the route makes its way through the outskirts of town before opening out into farmland and canalside paths.
You will pass New Mill Baptist Church before following field-edge tracks up to the hamlet of Little Tring, tucked above the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal. Sections of the canal here have been restored, while other stretches remain works in progress, giving the walk a real sense of local heritage. Tringford Reservoir lies nearby, a peaceful spot popular with waterbirds.
The return leg drops back towards Tring by way of Miswell Farm, with easy going underfoot and modest gradients throughout. At just over 5 km with only 75 m of ascent, it is a comfortable outing that pairs town, water and open country in little more than an hour.
