The terraces walk at Dyrham Park, Dyrham Park

This short circular walk explores the terraced parkland surrounding Dyrham Park, a National Trust estate set in a fold of the South Gloucestershire hills. Starting near St Peter's church, the route climbs onto The Terraces, where the ground opens out to give sweeping views across the deer park and the wider Cotswold escarpment.

From the high ground the path passes Old Lodge before dropping gently down to Frying Pan Pond, a quiet spot tucked into the estate's landscaped grounds. The way continues through the park itself, offering glimpses of Dyrham House, the handsome baroque mansion at the heart of the estate, before looping back to the start.

At just over two miles with a steady 149 m of ascent, this is an easy hour's walking that packs in a surprising amount of variety, from open grassland and grazing deer to woodland edges and ornamental water. It makes a good introduction to the estate and to the countryside on the southern edge of the Cotswolds.
