About this walk
The Old Golf walk is a gentle circular route through the grounds of Chirk Castle, offering a relaxed half-hour loop of just over two kilometres. Starting near the castle, the path leads out past the Kitchen Garden, where walled beds and productive planting hint at the estate's long working history.
From here the route drifts into Mars' Wood, a quiet stretch of estate woodland that makes up much of the walk's modest 60 metres of ascent. The going is easy underfoot and the wider parkland setting keeps views open between the trees, with glimpses back towards the castle and its surrounding landscape.
Because the loop stays close to the main visitor hub, it pairs neatly with a wander around nearby Gwyningar Wood and Pleasure Ground Wood, a look at the Hercules statue, or a stop at the Courtyard Tea-Room afterwards. It is a good choice for families, for a warm-up before exploring the castle itself, or simply for stretching your legs in the fresh Wrexham air.
