About this walk
This 4.1 km loop above Macclesfield packs a lot into just over an hour, climbing steadily onto the gritstone shoulder of Tegg's Nose for open views west across the Cheshire Plain and east into the moors. The ascent of 266 m is concentrated in short pulls, so expect to work for the panoramas.
From the country park the trail heads up onto Tegg's Nose itself, weaving between the remains of old quarry workings before dropping to cross the young River Bollin as it gathers pace off the hills. The Nose Coffee sits handily on the route for a warm drink and a bench with a view, and the final stretch curls back through mixed woodland and pasture to close the circuit.
Afterwards, the nearby Leather's Smithy beside Ridgegate Reservoir and the St. Dunstan Inn are both well placed for a post-walk pint or a proper meal before heading home.
