About this walk
Setting out from the village of Belton, this gentle circuit loops through the parkland and wooded fringes of Belton House, one of Lincolnshire's grand country estates. The waymarked trail heads out to East Towthorpe Hollow Pond before rising quietly past the Alford Memorial, a landmark commemorating the family long associated with the estate.
From here the path threads into Old Wood, where mature trees give a shady, sheltered feel underfoot, before emerging near the Belton House Maze and the ornamental plantings known as The Wilderness. The gradients are modest throughout, making this a relaxed outing suited to families and anyone wanting a taste of classic English parkland without a strenuous climb.
Keep an eye out for the surrounding features that give the estate its character, including the Gothic Sham Castle, the historic Ice House, and a string of ornamental waters: Boathouse Pond, Villa Pond and Mirror Pond. The route closes with a return to Belton, completing an easy circular walk of around 5.5 km.
