About this walk
The Strood Community Trail is a short and easy linear walk along the western side of the Medway, linking a handful of landmarks that together tell the story of this riverside corner of Kent. Beginning near the Aveling and Porter Works, once home to the famous Invicta horse emblem, the route sets off through Strood with the river never far from view.
From here you pass Jane's Creek, a quiet inlet off the Medway, before the path leads on towards Temple Manor, a modest medieval survival tucked into the modern townscape. Refreshment stops are easy to find, with a Starbucks and a Costa both sitting close to the trail for a coffee before or after the walk.
At only 2.4 km with a gentle 45 m of ascent, the trail makes an ideal half-hour stroll or an easy add-on to a day in Rochester. Nearby you can extend your visit with Rochester Pier, Strood Waterfront and Strood Pier, the ruins of the old city wall, the site of the former fire station, and the historic High Street just across the river.
