This short circular walk from Stanton St. Gabriel explores the coastal hinterland of Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast of England. Starting and finishing at the tiny hamlet of Stanton St. Gabriel, the route climbs gently through pasture and hedgerow before looping back through classic Dorset countryside.
Along the way you pass close to Westhay Water and Ridge Water, two small streams that drain the slopes below Golden Cap towards the sea. The midway point brings you back through Stanton St. Gabriel itself, a peaceful spot tucked into a fold of the hills. On clear days the views open out across Lyme Bay and along the Jurassic Coast.
At just 2.7 km with a modest 118 m of ascent, this is an easy outing that packs a lot of Dorset scenery into three quarters of an hour, making it a good choice for a short leg-stretch or a family walk.
