About this walk
This easy 3.6 km trail begins in the quiet village of East Stoke, setting off past the parish church of St Oswald. From here the path heads out across gently rolling farmland, with modest climbs adding up to around 70 metres of ascent over the course of the walk.
The route soon enters Stoke Wood, a peaceful stretch of woodland that shelters the ground where the Battle of Stoke Field was fought in 1487. A weathered digger sits near the field edge, a curious landmark on the way through. Beyond the trees, the trail drops gently towards the wide, slow-moving River Trent, where the path runs alongside the water for a spell.
With Hazelford Lock a short distance downstream, this is a rewarding short outing that combines village, woodland and riverside scenery in about an hour. As a linear route, you can either retrace your steps or arrange onward transport from the far end.
