About this walk
This 7.1 km linear route through the Kent countryside links a string of village landmarks and quiet woodland edges, climbing a modest 106 metres along the way. The walk takes in the church of St Mary the Virgin and the medieval shell of St Leonard's Tower before easing down towards the village of Wateringbury, where The Railway provides a welcome marker near the end of the route.
Along the way you pass close to Hoath Wood and Cattering Wood, two pockets of mixed woodland typical of this corner of the county, with the East Malling Stream threading through the landscape nearby. Keep an eye out for Turner's Cascade and the quiet vantage point above The Farmhouse, where the orchards and hedgerows of the Kentish Weald open up below.
At a moderate grade and finishing at a railway station, this section makes an easy car-free outing, with the train at Wateringbury allowing a straightforward return to your start point.
