About this walk
This gentle 3 km circuit inside Dunham Massey Park offers a compact taste of one of Greater Manchester's best-loved green spaces. Starting from within the park, the route loops past a series of tranquil water features and wooded coverts, with only around 50 metres of ascent to trouble the legs.
You'll pass Fox Hole Pool and Smithy Pool, two of the estate's characterful ponds, before threading through Headsman's Covert, a pocket of woodland typical of the park's mixed landscape of pasture, veteran trees and quiet plantations. The paths are broad and well-used, making it a reliable choice for a short run or a brisk walk.
Nearby features worth extending your visit for include the Langham Grove Obelisk, the meandering River Bollin along the park's edge, and further coverts such as New Covert and Pitstead Covert. Traces of the former course of the River Bollin still shape the low-lying ground here, adding a subtle historical layer to an otherwise easy-going lap.
