Rangers' Ramble, Ashridge Estate

The Rangers' Ramble is a gentle linear walk through the wooded heart of the Ashridge Estate, beginning at the striking Bridgewater Monument and winding north to the village of Little Gaddesden. From the monument, the path leads through mature beech and oak woodland typical of the Chilterns, with easy gradients underfoot and glimpses across the estate as you go.

The route passes Tom's Hill and the tranquil Pump Pond, both quiet spots where you might pause among the trees. The woodland gradually opens as you approach Little Gaddesden, where the walk ends amid the greens and lanes of this attractive Hertfordshire village.

With just 119 metres of ascent spread over 4 kilometres, it is an easy hour's outing suitable for most walkers. If you have time to extend your visit, nearby Aldbury is well worth exploring for its duck pond, village stocks and whipping post, and the welcoming Greyhound Inn, while Pitstone Common offers further quiet walking on the estate's fringes.
