About this walk
This gentle 2.9 km route climbs steadily out of the Marsden area, gaining just over 100 metres as it heads up towards the distinctive outline of Pule Hill. Setting off from Kirklees, the path threads past Netherley and passes Mill Dam, where the still water sits neatly against the rising moorland backdrop.
Beyond the dam, the way opens out onto the flanks of Pule Hill itself, with Lee Top rising nearby and long views stretching across Marsden Moor. It is a short outing, around 45 minutes at an unhurried pace, but the sudden sense of space at the top of the climb makes it feel much bigger than the numbers suggest.
Being a linear route, you can either retrace your steps or continue down into Marsden village, where The New Inn, The Shakespeare and The Railway all offer somewhere to warm up afterwards. The proximity to Marsden's station makes this an ideal car-free half-day, easily paired with a longer moorland ramble if the weather holds.
