Penmaenmawr Upland walk

This 7.3 km linear route heads out of Penmaenmawr and climbs steadily onto the open hills above the north Conwy coast, gaining around 425 m over roughly two and a quarter hours. It is a moderate outing with big rewards: sweeping views across the Menai Strait to Anglesey, the Great Orme to the east and the northern edge of the Carneddau rising inland.

The path passes the Gladstone Memorial, set on the slopes with a wide panorama over the sea, before continuing across the upland to reach Meini Hirion, the prehistoric stone circle known as the Druid's Circle. Along the way you are in the company of hills such as Moelfre, Craig Hafodwen and Foel Lus, with the ancient axe-making landscape of Graiglwyd nearby.

The descent brings you back down towards Penmaenmawr, where the quarry clock stands as a reminder of the town's stone-working past. As a linear walk it works well with the North Wales coast railway, letting you finish at the station without needing to retrace your steps.
