About this walk

This section of the Pendle Way covers 11.6 km of varied Lancashire countryside, climbing steadily with around 297 metres of ascent across roughly three hours of walking. Rated challenging, it suits walkers comfortable with rough ground and open moorland, and being a linear route it pairs well with a planned bus or taxi pick-up at the far end.

The walk threads through Wycoller, a small stone hamlet tucked in a wooded valley, before climbing onto higher ground towards Catlow. Between the two you trade sheltered cloughs and pack-horse bridges for breezy pasture and moorland edges, with long views opening out across the Pendle landscape.

Nearby Southfield and the Shooters Arms make useful reference points for planning a stop or a finish, whether you want refreshment, a sit-down or simply a landmark to aim for. Sturdy boots, layers and a map are sensible given the exposed sections and the steady climbs along the way.
