About this walk

Setting out from Gayton on the eastern edge of the Dee Estuary, this gentle 5.3 km route offers wide, level walking with just a modest 47 m of ascent. From the start, the path leads past The Boat House and on to a slipway, where the marshes and mudflats of the estuary open out towards the Welsh coast beyond.

The middle stretch follows the well-loved trails of Wirral Country Park, a green corridor threaded with hedgerows and glimpses of the water. Look out for the QE2 Fields In Trust Stone and the quiet woodland of Gayton Wood close to the route, with Parkgate and Neston United Reformed Church a short detour for those wanting to extend the day.

The walk returns to finish back at Gayton, making it a straightforward outing of around an hour and a quarter. With easy terrain, clear paths and estuary views throughout, it's a good choice for a relaxed half-day out on the Wirral without needing a car for the main stretch.
