About this walk

This circular route on the northern edge of Milton Keynes follows the gentle Great Ouse valley, weaving between riverside meadow and the historic streets of Newport Pagnell. Starting from the green corridor of Lakes Lane and Westbury Parks, the path drops down towards the water and heads out along the Ouse to Gayhurst Weir, a peaceful spot where the river tumbles over its sill.

From the weir the route loops back towards Newport Pagnell, entering the town by All Saints and passing the War Memorial. A short walk through the centre brings you to the Newport Pagnell Methodist Church before quiet streets lead you back to the parks where the walk began.

Along the way you can easily detour to Brownlea's Spinney, Saint Bede's Church or the Newport Pagnell United Reformed Church, and there is welcome refreshment at The Coachmakers Arms or Robinsons before the final stretch. At around 8 km with modest ascent, it makes a satisfying half-day outing combining river scenery with small-town character.
