Mottisfont Estate Walk, Mottisfont

This 9.3 km circular route through the Mottisfont Estate combines chalk-stream meadows with quiet woodland in the heart of the Test Valley. Starting from the village, the path threads through Cadbury Wood and Mason's Copse before opening out near Gardeners Pit and the Beech Circle, a distinctive stand that makes a natural pause point.

From here the route drops down to By Hatches, where the walk skirts the water meadows that fringe the River Test, one of England's most celebrated chalk streams. You follow field edges past Queenmeadow Copse and Clapgate Copse, crossing Spearywell Brook before climbing gently through Great Copse and returning via Colins Close Row.

Along the way there are glimpses of features linked to the wider estate, including the old Ice House and Yewtree Pit, while the village itself is home to the ancient Mottisfont Font that gives the place its name. With roughly 228 metres of ascent spread across easy gradients, this is a rewarding half-day loop that captures the character of rural Hampshire.
