About this walk
This short linear health walk links a pocket of Black Country woodland with the towpath of the Walsall Canal, offering an easy half-hour of green space and industrial heritage on the edge of Moxley. Starting near The Fiery Holes, the route enters Moorcroft Wood Local Nature Reserve, a designated Black Country Geosite where reclaimed ground has softened into scrub and young woodland.
From the reserve you drop down to the canal, crossing Moorcroft Junction Bridge and Moorcroft Drive Bridge before joining the towpath at the Wednesbury Railway Basin on the Walsall Canal. The waterway leads you gently past former wharfs and quiet backwaters towards Lea Brook Methodist Church, which marks the end of the linear walk.
Along the way there are wider views out towards Parkway Roundabout and the Black Country Millennium Forest, with Bull's Bridge, Leabrook Bridge and the Bradley Lane Metro Bridge all within easy reach if you fancy extending the outing. With only 32 metres of ascent across 2 kilometres, it is a relaxed introduction to the canal landscapes of the West Midlands.
