About this walk

Starting in the village of Streatley, this circular route climbs out of the Thames valley through meadows and mixed woodland on the Berkshire side of the Goring Gap, the narrow break where the river cuts between the Chilterns and the Berkshire Downs.

The path leads up towards Common Wood, where the going is quieter under the trees, before looping back down towards the river. On the return you drop past Streatley Weir, with views across to Goring Lock and Goring Weir on the far bank. The village church of St Thomas of Canterbury and the tangle of Streatley Wild Wood sit close to the finish, making a natural point to pause before heading back to the start.

At around 5 km with a steady 194 m of ascent, it is a moderate half-day outing that packs in woodland, open meadow and one of the most celebrated stretches of the River Thames.
