About this walk

This gentle 4.5 km loop begins in the small Cheshire village of Marbury and traces a path around two of the county's meres. Starting near St. Michael's, the parish church that sits above the water, the route soon opens up to views across Big Mere, one of the largest natural lakes in the area.

From the mere the walk continues on quiet lanes and field paths, passing Little Mere and skirting the edges of Hadley Covert. You may also spot the Memorial Stone to the Little Flower Girl of Wirswall along the way, along with the working farmland around Wood Farm and Bank Farm. Nearby Quoisley Little Mere adds another glimpse of Cheshire's characteristic glacial pools.

With no ascent to speak of and an hour of walking at a steady pace, this is an ideal short outing for families or anyone wanting a relaxed introduction to the Cheshire mere country. The route finishes back in Marbury, close to where it began.
