About this walk

This short circular begins in the Hertfordshire village of Sandridge, setting out past the distinctive Sandridge Lychgate before heading into open countryside. Field paths lead you gently towards Langley Wood, the woodland waypoint that gives the route its magical, meandering character.

Beneath the trees the going is easy, with soft paths winding through mixed woodland on the fringes of Heartwood Forest. Nearby lie Well Wood and Pudler's Wood, and it is worth pausing to enjoy the quiet before the loop curves back towards the village. With only around 49 metres of ascent spread across 1.6 miles, this is a relaxed 45-minute wander rather than a hike.

The path returns you to Sandridge, where the Green Man offers a welcome finish to the walk. Compact and well-signed, the route makes a fine introduction to the woodland tapestry that has been steadily growing around this corner of Hertfordshire.
