About this walk

This short circular trail loops through the working farmland and woodland at Low Sizergh, on the southern edge of the Lake District. At just over two kilometres with modest ascent, it makes an easy half-hour outing suited to families and anyone wanting a gentle leg-stretch close to Kendal.

The path winds between pasture, hedgerow and patches of mixed woodland, with views opening out across the Sizergh estate and the low limestone country that characterises this corner of Cumbria. Underfoot you can expect farm tracks and field paths, with a few gentle rises rather than any sustained climb.

Walkers with a little more time can extend the outing by exploring the remains of the nearby Basingill Gunpowder Works, tucked into the wooded valley of the River Kent a short distance away. The trail returns you to your starting point at Low Sizergh, where the farm shop and café provide a welcome reward.
