About this walk
The Lost Resort Trail is a short linear walk through the dunes and pinewoods behind Formby beach, on the Sefton coast of Merseyside. At just 2.2 km with only a modest 22 m of ascent, it makes for an easy half-hour stroll that suits most abilities.
The route weaves through the shifting sand hills that characterise this stretch of coastline, with soft sandy paths underfoot and views opening up across the dune system. Close by rises Raven Meols Hill, one of the higher points in the local dune landscape, giving a sense of the scale of these wind-shaped formations.
As a linear walk, you will need to retrace your steps or arrange onward transport at the far end. Even at this short distance, the combination of dunes, pine and coastal air offers a real taste of the Sefton shore in a compact outing.
