About this walk

This short but characterful route in North Somerset climbs steadily through a chain of woodlands to reach the ramparts of an Iron Age hillfort, packing a surprising amount of variety into just over two miles. Setting off from Stone Edge Batch, the path threads into Round Wood before continuing through Lime Breach Wood and Westpark Wood, where the tree cover shifts between broadleaf shade and sudden clearings.

The high point of the walk, both literally and figuratively, is Cadbury Camp, a hilltop earthwork with wide views over the Somerset countryside towards the Bristol Channel. On a clear day the outlook stretches across the low ground drained by the Land Yeo, with wooded ridges rolling away to the south.

Nearby, walkers can extend their day by exploring Moorend Spout Nature Reserve or the quieter corners of Sir John's Wood and Cockheap Wood. Although the total distance is modest, the ascent of nearly 180 metres is concentrated in a few sharp pulls, so it feels more strenuous than the numbers suggest. Sturdy footwear is recommended, especially after wet weather.
