Longshaw Woodland Explorer Walk, Longshaw Estate

This 3.3 km circular packs a lot into an hour of walking on the National Trust's Longshaw Estate. Starting near the Granby Discovery Barn, the route climbs steadily through mixed woodland before opening out at Surprise View, a well-named gritstone escarpment looking west across the Hope Valley.

From here you follow the edge past Owler Tor, with its weathered rock formations, before dropping down towards Bole Hill and the old workings at Yarncliff Quarry. The path winds back through oak and birch woodland, where you'll spot the curious coin-embedded tree stumps, a folk tradition where visitors hammer coins into fallen logs for luck.

The final stretch loops back to the Granby Discovery Barn, with Padley Gorge, Bolehill Wood and Millstone Edge all within easy reach if you fancy extending the day. With 161 m of ascent packed into a short distance, it's a moderate outing that rewards the effort with big views and rich woodland character.
