About this walk
This 10.7 km circular packs in 349 m of ascent as it loops through the woodland and moorland edge above Llandegla. Starting near One Planet Adventure, a well-known mountain biking and outdoor hub, the route climbs steadily through conifer plantations before opening out onto firmer forest tracks.
The high point is Shotton View, a clearing that on clear days stretches across the Cheshire Plain towards the distant industry of the Dee estuary. From here the path winds back down past quieter corners of the forest, with the chance to detour to a bird hide overlooking Pendinas Reservoir, or take in the silhouette of Sir Watkin's Tower on the surrounding hills.
Allow close to three hours at a steady pace, longer if you stop to scan the reservoir for wildlife. The Llandegla Fishery Cafe nearby makes a welcome finish point for tea and cake after the climb.
