Llwybr Clawdd Wat traces a quietly rewarding line across the Shropshire borderland, beginning at Llanymynech and Pant and finishing in the market town of Oswestry. The early miles take in the area's industrial heritage, passing the Hoffmann Kiln and a cluster of lime kilns that recall the limestone workings once central to local life.
From Penygarreg Lane Halt the route joins the Montgomery Canal, settling into a gentle towpath rhythm through Redwith and on to the Gronwyn Bridge turning point. You pass Canal Central and the Navigation Inn, two welcome waypoints for a pause, before the path continues by Newbridge and Gwern Y Brenin towards Oswestry.
At 13.9 km with a modest 134 m of ascent, the going is steady rather than steep, though the distance earns its challenging rating. Closer to the finish, walkers can detour to Ardmillan House, Shelf Bank, the Mill Arm, Oswestry Methodist Church and Wilfred Owen Green before exploring the town itself.
