About this walk

The Limestone Walk is a short linear route through the limestone country of North Yorkshire, covering 3.4 km (2.1 miles) in around an hour. With a modest 102 metres of ascent, it offers a gentle introduction to the pale rock and pastoral landscapes that characterise this corner of the county.

The route climbs steadily but never sharply, following paths and tracks across open ground typical of the Yorkshire uplands. Expect the bright outcrops, drystone walls and grazed fields that give the walk its name, with wide views opening up as you gain height.

As a linear walk it ends at a different point from where it begins, so a little planning is needed for the return. The easy grading and short distance make it well suited to a half-day outing, a leg-stretch between longer trips, or a first taste of walking in North Yorkshire.
