About this walk

This gentle circular walk of around 4.5 km explores two of the Black Country's best-loved green spaces, The Leasowes and Coombeswood, starting and finishing at Lapal. Setting off, the route soon reaches the Boating Pool before winding into Heywood Bridge Wood, an area of ancient woodland where mature trees shade the path.

From here you follow the landscaped water features past the Low Cascade and on through Hollies Wood, another pocket of ancient woodland. The path climbs gently towards Mucklow Hill before descending to Hawne Basin, a quiet inland waterway spot, and the peaceful Memorial Orchard on the way back to Lapal.

With roughly 143 m of ascent spread over the loop, it is an easy outing of about an hour and a quarter. Nearby highlights worth extending the day for include the Reservoir Pool, the Heart Shaped Pool, the Coombswood Valley and Bromsgrove Road Cutting Black Country Geosites, and the towpath of the Dudley No.2 Canal.
