About this walk

This gentle circular walk begins and ends at the village of Martletwy, deep in the wooded creek country of south Pembrokeshire. Setting out along quiet lanes and shaded paths, you soon drop down towards Garron Pill, a tidal inlet fringed by oak woodland that feeds into the broad Daugleddau estuary.

The route continues past St. Caradoc before reaching the Lawrenny Arms, a welcome stop close to the waterside. From here the surroundings open up towards Lawrenny Wood, with glimpses across the water and the chance to spot Benton Castle standing on its wooded bluff further downstream. Lawrenny Castle sits nearby too, adding to the layered character of this quiet corner of Pembrokeshire.

The return leg loops back through mixed farmland and woodland to Martletwy, completing an easy 4.6 km circuit with only modest ascent. It is a walk of soft edges rather than dramatic drama: creeks, trees, tidal mud, and the slow rhythm of an estuary that most visitors to the Pembrokeshire coast never see.
