About this walk

This waymarked Lark Rise Farm walk sets out from the village of Barton, just south-west of Cambridge, following red markers on a 6.6 km circular loop through open arable countryside. With only around 32 metres of ascent, the going is easy underfoot, though the field-edge paths and farm tracks can be sticky after rain, so allow the full hour and a half to enjoy it at a steady pace.

From the village you head out to Millennium Wood, a young plantation that has matured into a pleasant patch of broadleaf trees and birdsong. The route then curves back towards Barton, passing the tranquil Village Pond before returning by way of St Peter's, the parish church, whose churchyard offers a quiet spot to pause. Field margins here are managed with wildlife in mind, so keep an eye out for skylarks, hares and farmland birds as you go.

Back in the village, The White Horse pub sits close to the route and makes a natural stop for a drink or a meal at the end of the walk.
