About this walk
Route 3 of the Lark Rise Farm Walks traces a gentle 3.8 km loop from the village of Barton, on the edge of Cambridge. Following blue markers from the centre of the village, the path heads out into open Cambridgeshire farmland with only a modest 20 metres of ascent, making for an easy hour on foot.
Along the way the route crosses Bourn Brook, a small tributary that meanders through the fields west of Cambridge, before curving back towards the village. Waymarking is straightforward and the going is generally flat, with hedgerows, field edges and open skies for company.
Back in Barton there is time to explore a compact cluster of village landmarks: the parish church of St Peter, Barton Baptist Church, the green space at Disbrey Close Amenity Area, and The Secret Garden tucked near Church Close. The circular finishes conveniently at The White Horse, a welcome spot to round off the walk before catching a bus back into Cambridge.
