About this walk
This gentle yellow-waymarked loop from the village of Barton offers a short but rewarding introduction to the farmland conservation project at Lark Rise Farm, on the south-western edge of Cambridge. Setting out from the village, the route heads across open countryside on well-marked field paths, with wide skies and hedgerow-lined margins typical of this corner of Cambridgeshire.
The highlight is the crossing of Bourn Brook, a small chalk-fed stream that winds quietly through the fields before eventually joining the River Cam. From here the trail loops back towards Barton, keeping to the yellow markers across gently undulating farmland. With just 13 metres of ascent over 2.8 km, the going is easy throughout and can comfortably be completed in around three-quarters of an hour.
Back in the village, The White Horse sits within easy reach for a well-earned drink or bite to eat, making this a fine choice for a relaxed half-morning or afternoon out from Cambridge without needing a car.
