About this walk
This short circular walk of just over two kilometres traces a level track around the flanks of Langdon Hill, a wooded rise set back from the sea in west Dorset. The path stays largely within the trees of Filcombe Wood and Knell Coppice, offering a shaded, sheltered route that feels a world away from the exposed clifftops nearby.
Setting off from the hilltop car park area, the loop follows a broad forestry track that contours gently around the hill. Gaps in the canopy open up views south towards Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast of England, and across rolling Dorset farmland towards the sea. The midway point marks the far side of the hill, from where the return leg curves back through mixed woodland to your starting point.
With only modest ascent and firm underfoot conditions, it is an ideal choice for a relaxed 45 minutes outdoors, or as a warm-up for the steeper climb up Golden Cap itself.
