About this walk
The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is one of the most celebrated short walks in the Yorkshire Dales, packing a remarkable sequence of cascades, gorges and woodland into just over three miles. From the village edge the path climbs gently into the wooded valley of the River Twiss, where the spray-misted Pecca Falls Viewing Area gives the first proper sense of the trail's drama.
Beyond Pecca, the route continues upstream towards open ground at Scar End, with the limestone country of the southern Dales opening out around you. The walk then swings across to the parallel valley of the River Doe, where Baxenghyll Gorge is the highlight: a deep, narrow chasm best seen from the viewing platform set above the rushing water below.
With around 266 metres of ascent over 4.9 km, the going is moderate rather than tough, but expect steps, stone paths and slick rock in places. Allow about an hour and a half, longer if you stop often, and keep an eye out for Wackenburgh Hill and the wider Ingleton Waterfalls Walk variations nearby.
