About this walk

Starting in the village of Ightham, this circular route in the Kent Weald links a medieval moated manor with the wooded ramparts of an Iron Age hillfort. The walk climbs steadily out of the village onto Oldbury Hill, where the earthworks of Oldbury Camp trace a vast prehistoric enclosure beneath the trees.

From the high ground the path drops through mixed woodland to Fish Ponds Wood, a quiet, damp pocket of greensand country, before easing back through the hamlet of St Lawrence. Field edges and shaded lanes lead you back towards Ightham Mote itself, with views opening across the rolling Kentish countryside on the return leg.

At roughly 4.8 km with 153 m of ascent, it is a satisfying short outing that combines woodland, history and gentle pastoral scenery. Raspit Hill, The Toll, Broomfield Wood, Stone Street and Ightham Common all sit nearby if you want to extend the day or explore further on foot.
