Heversham Trail

This 4.3 km circuit begins in Heversham, a quiet village tucked into the gentle countryside of south Cumbria. The route climbs steadily through mixed woodland and pasture to gain the modest summit of Heversham Head, where the ground opens out to reveal a sweeping panorama across the Kent estuary towards the southern Lakeland fells and Morecambe Bay.

With only 134 m of ascent spread across the loop, the going is comfortable and well suited to a relaxed afternoon. From the high ground you can pick out the small rises of Banner Riggs and Beggarside Hill nearby, and the hamlet of Leasgill sitting below in the patchwork of fields. The descent threads back through hedgerows and quiet lanes near Woodhouse before returning to the village.

Allow around an hour and a quarter at an easy pace, with time to pause on Heversham Head for the view. The walk works well as a half-day outing, combining a short climb, varied scenery and a satisfying loop back to your starting point.
