About this walk

This gentle circular route through Handsworth and Lozells threads together some of the most distinctive places of worship and heritage landmarks in this diverse corner of north Birmingham. Starting near a colourful Flowers and Abstract Art Mural, the walk passes The Stork before reaching Hamstead Road Baptist Church, one of several striking religious buildings you will encounter along the way.

From there the route heads to Soho House Museum, the elegant Georgian home associated with Birmingham's industrial pioneers, and a nearby blue plaque commemorating John Hardman (1811-1867), the celebrated master metalworker and stained glass maker. A pleasant loop through George's Park offers a green break before you continue to Lozells Methodist Church Centre and the Sri Dasmesh Sikh Temple, reflecting the area's rich religious and cultural mix.

At around 4.6 km with just 38 m of ascent, the trail is easy underfoot and can comfortably be walked in an hour. Nearby points of interest such as Hockley Brook, Aston Brook, Gateway To India, the Salvation Army and Aston Masjid add further layers of local character for anyone wishing to extend their exploration.
