About this walk
This circular walk on the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire border links two of the Thames Valley's most photographed stretches of river. Starting from Remenham, the route heads upstream past the Remenham Barrier and along the famous Henley Royal Regatta course, with Temple Island Folly marking the traditional start line out in the water.
Continuing along the towpath you reach Hambleden Lock, where the weir and the white weatherboarded Hambleden Mill sit prettily across the river. Nearby at Mill End lie the remains of a Roman villa, a reminder that this crossing point has been in use for close to two thousand years. The Flower Pot Hotel offers a welcome pause before you loop back through fields and quiet lanes.
The return leg brings you past the grave of Dusty Springfield in the churchyard at Henley, and the view of the Obelisk and the regatta piers finishes the walk on a classic Thames note. Expect swans, skiffs and, in summer, the bustle of rowers training on the water.
