About this walk
This circular walk from Penventinue heads out towards the mouth of the Fowey Estuary, weaving between coastal farmland and the dramatic cliffs above Lantic Bay. The route passes the site of a WW2 Magazine for No. 2 Gun, a quiet reminder of the coastline's wartime role guarding the estuary approaches.
Continuing along the South West Coast Path, you'll reach St Catherine's Point Light with its far-reaching views across the sea, before dropping down to the sheltered cove at Coombe Haven. From here the path climbs inland past the curious Menabilly Grotto, tucked into the wooded estate, and on through the lanes at Coombe Farm.
The loop closes back at Penventinue after around 4.1 km and 221 m of ascent, making it a satisfying short outing of roughly an hour and a quarter. Nearby, walkers with time to spare can extend the day by exploring The Ledge or the Headland Garden, both easily linked to this stretch of the Cornish coast.
