About this walk

This easy circular walk begins and ends in the small village of South Lopham on the Norfolk and Suffolk border. At just 2.7 km with only 36 metres of ascent, it makes an ideal short outing, taking around 45 minutes at a steady pace and suiting families or anyone looking for a gentle leg-stretch.

From the village the route loops out into the flat, watery landscape that gives the Great Fen Trail its name, with Cafe Piccolo providing a handy pause for coffee or cake. Nearby lie Langfen Farm and Pond Farm, whose fields and hedgerows give the walk a quiet, agricultural character. The Hundred River, which rises in this part of Norfolk, threads through the surrounding countryside.

Just to the north sits Redgrave and Lopham Fen, one of the most important wetland sites in East Anglia and well worth combining with the walk if you have more time. Underfoot the going is easy, and the level terrain makes it a good introduction to the fen landscapes of the Norfolk-Suffolk border.
