About this walk

The Glenfarne Cycle and Walk Loop is a compact 3.5 km circular route in County Leitrim that packs a surprising amount of variety into its single hour on foot. With 171 m of ascent, it climbs steadily out of the village before easing into a rhythm through woodland and quiet upland ground.

From the start in Glenfarne, the trail heads out towards Moneyduff and passes a string of named landmarks that give the loop its character. Look out for Bilberry Island, the curiously named Myles Big Stone and the small landmark of Badgers Well as you make your way round. The going is moderate rather than strenuous, but the climb rewards you with glimpses across the surrounding Leitrim landscape of low hills, hedged fields and stands of native woodland.

Back near the village, it is worth extending your visit to take in the Glenfarne River and Saint Patrick's Island close by, both easily reached on foot. The circular nature of the route means no retracing steps, making it an ideal short outing for an afternoon or a leg-stretch on a longer trip.
