About this walk
This short circular loop through the parkland of Dunham Massey is a gentle way to slow down and reconnect with the natural world. Starting near Dunham Massey Gardens, the route heads out through mixed woodland and open pasture, an easy 2.6 km wander with barely any climb to worry about.
The path threads past New Covert and Headsman's Covert, two of the small wooded stands that dot the estate, before reaching the quiet water of Smithy Pool. These are unhurried surroundings, well suited to a mindful pace, with plenty of chances to pause and take in the light through the trees or the calls of birds overhead.
Nearby features are worth lingering over if you have time to extend the walk, including the Langham Grove Obelisk, Fox Hole Pool, the former course of the River Bollin, Pitstead Covert and the Moss Garden. It all makes for a compact but rewarding outing, and one that suits a slow lunch break or an easy afternoon reset.
