About this walk
Starting and finishing in the village of Downley, this gentle 2.4 km loop drops into the wooded valley of the Hughenden estate. The path threads through the mixed woodland known locally as the German Forest before opening out onto the parkland surrounding Hughenden Manor, the red-brick country house forever associated with Benjamin Disraeli.
From the manor, the route passes the Walled Garden, a sheltered corner well worth a pause, before curving down to the Dew Pond tucked among the trees. A steady climb back through the woods returns you to Downley, with around 140 m of ascent spread comfortably across the walk.
Close by are several rewarding detours: Disraeli's grave in the churchyard of St Michael & All Angels sits just below the manor, and the Hughenden Stream traces the floor of the valley. At around 45 minutes, the circuit slots easily into a wider afternoon exploring the estate.
