Freshwater West Wildlife Walk, Stackpole

This short linear walk on the western fringes of the Stackpole and Castlemartin area offers a gentle introduction to one of Pembrokeshire's wildest stretches of coast. Setting out from the Stackpole and Castlemartin trailhead, the path rolls across low dune country with wide skies overhead and the Atlantic never far from earshot.

The route passes Dobby's Grave, a curious spot marked on local maps, before opening out onto the sweeping expanse of Gupton Burrows. These sandy grasslands are rich in wildlife, with wildflowers, insects and seabirds in abundance during the warmer months. The going is easy underfoot, with just 46 metres of ascent spread across the 3.5 km, making it a manageable outing for most walkers.

Beyond the route itself, the surrounding landscape is worth lingering over. Castlemartin Corse lies inland as a low wetland corridor, while Kilpaison Burrows, Brownhill Burrows and the small headland of Little Furzenip all sit within easy reach for those keen to extend their explorations. The walk finishes back at the Stackpole and Castlemartin waypoint.
