Fowey Hall Walk, Lantic Bay

This linear route sets out from the historic harbour town of Fowey and climbs steadily onto the South West Coast Path, following the cliffs eastwards towards the sheltered curve of Lantic Bay. The 5.2 km walk gains a substantial 450 m of ascent, so expect steady climbs and dips as the path traces the contours of the coastline.

Along the way you pass St Saviour's, a headland long used as a lookout above the estuary, and a memorial erected to Sir Arthur T. Quiller-Couch, the Cornish writer closely associated with Fowey. A WWII Memorial also marks the route, offering a quiet moment with wide views out to sea. Nearby points of interest include the ruins of St Saviour's Chapel, St Wyllow Chapel a little inland, and Polruan Castle guarding the mouth of the estuary opposite.

The reward is Lantic Bay itself, a crescent of pale sand backed by steep green slopes and reached by a final descent. Retrace your steps along the cliffs, or link into the wider coast path network for a longer day out.
