About this walk
This short circular ramble on Finchampstead Ridges offers a gentle taste of one of Wokingham's most peaceful woodland corners. Rising to a modest 65 metres of ascent over 2.6 kilometres, the route follows well-trodden paths through mixed woodland and heath, easily completed in around three quarters of an hour.
From the ridges themselves, the ground drops away into a patchwork of pine and broadleaf trees. The path leads down to Spout Pond, a tranquil pool tucked among the trees that makes a natural pause point before the gentle climb back up. Along the way you brush the edges of Fisher's Copse and Simon's Wood Heathlands, both worth a short detour if you have time to linger.
The circular nature of the walk means no retracing of steps, and the modest distance suits families, casual walkers and anyone wanting a quick woodland fix without committing to a longer outing. Underfoot conditions are generally easy, though roots and damp patches near the pond call for sensible footwear.
