About this walk
This linear route from Summerbridge climbs onto the moorland edge above Nidderdale, taking in a memorable stretch of the Brimham Rocks landscape. From the village, the path rises through fields and enters High Wood before emerging onto the more open ground of Brimham Moor.
The going gets more interesting as you approach the weathered gritstone outcrops, passing the striking pinnacle known as the Druid's Idol and skirting Knoll Top. Fell Beck runs nearby, and the small spring called Adam's Ale is another curiosity to look out for among the rocks. The whole area sits within the Brimham Rocks SSSI, so keep an eye out for the heather, bilberry and moorland birds that thrive here.
The route is described as linear, returning to Summerbridge, and packs a fair amount of ascent into its 4.2 km. Allow around an hour and a quarter at a steady pace, and take time to explore the rock formations before heading back down.
